La Svol·ta (Italian: The turning point). The infamous helicoidal staircase designed by Francesco Borromini in 1633. Photographed inside the Roman baroque palace of Palazzo Barberini – known for its striking design, paintings, and cultural influence. The staircase is helicoidal, a study in shape and geometry following the principle of turning on its rotational axis with an oval floor plan. The light enters from the oculus at the top and from the windows of the facade – a marvel in architecture, functionality, and aesthetic.
